Sciatic nerve glide

What it does
This exercise safely mobilizes the sciatic nerve through its anatomical sheath to reduce mechanical tension and improve neural excursion. By alternately applying and releasing tension at the neck and knee, it prevents nerve tethering and reduces ectopic discharge, alleviating radicular symptoms common in Piriformis Syndrome.
How to do it
- Sit upright on the edge of a chair with your feet flat on the floor and your hands resting on your lap.
- Slowly straighten your affected leg while simultaneously pointing your toes away from you and extending your neck to look upward.
- Bend your knee to return your foot to the floor while simultaneously flexing your neck to look down toward your chest.
- Move fluidly between these two positions in a rhythmic manner without holding the end range.
Progression
Progress to a nerve tensioner by flexing your neck forward while simultaneously extending your leg and pulling your toes toward you.
Regression
Perform the exercise lying on your back with your hip supported at 90 degrees, gently straightening and bending the knee.
