Study Summary

Background

Chronic low back pain (LBP) is a major health problem affecting millions of people worldwide. While dry needling has shown promise for treating various musculoskeletal conditions, there are no clear recommendations for its use in low back pain. Previous systematic reviews have shown only moderate evidence for dry needling effectiveness, often limited by poor study quality and varied techniques. This study investigated a novel dry needling approach called the Five Regulatory Systems (FRS) concept, which targets multiple tissue systems including fascia, fluid drainage, autonomic nervous system, proprioception, and reactive skin zones.

The control group showed no functional improvement. Spine flexibility also improved substantially in the dry needling group, increasing by 1.8 cm immediately after treatment, while the control group showed no changes.
